Watch a Live Orchestra perform the full Discworld theme

When the project to re-record all of the Discworld audiobooks began (a huge undertaking which remains ongoing), it was decided that something suitably impressive and evocative would be required for the theme music.

In collaboration with Penguin Random House, we decided that the sound of Discworld should be sweeping, magical and most of all, intriguing. With those factors in mind, it was almost hard not to think of James Hannigan, a composer who has worked on a massive range of projects, the most notable of which is perhaps Audible’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman.

James presented us with an amazing first draft – which barely changed through production. He suggested recording it live with a 70-piece orchestra in Budapest – the results of which, we feel, speak for themselves…
