The 13th and final chapter of Paul Kidby’s upcoming book Designing Terry Pratchett’s Discworld has been revealed, wherein he includes early drafts and ideas of covers for books that Terry spoke about but, sadly, never got to write.
“Now that Terry is no longer with us, I try very hard to ‘colour within the lines’ and steer clear of approaches that I know would run counter to his sensibilities as I understood them,” explains Paul in this final chapter. “However, for this book, his estate suggested that it might be fun for me to take a first pass at designing some covers for the Discworld books that Terry never got around to writing, based on the ideas for stories that he had been talking about before time ran out on him.
“It’s a source of frustration and great sadness to us all, of course, that we’ll never get to hold and read these planned books. But we can at least – and I hope without presuming too much – imagine what they might have looked lie had they made it into the world and onto our shelves.”
Designing Terry Pratchett’s Discworld publishes 7th November 2024. You can pre-order your copy here.
